Based on Maureen's note about Canada's Voter List - I decided to give that type of search a try on Ancestry.....with some pretty good success....it would seem.

Lots of hits for Carl Maier - one in particular looked interesting - 1968 for an accountant (comptable). It was for riding in Labelle, QC. Per the actual document there is a Carl Maier and a Mrs. Rita Maier...consistent.

It got better...location (residence) is actually Piedmont, QC. Per google only minutes from St. Sauveur, the location (per burial record) of Carl Maier's parish!!

Rita Maier (alone) appears Labelle, Québec in 1972 - not sure if its the same but the US directory entries usually refer to the year before - perhaps Canada might do the same  ???

Carl states on the 12 September 1932 border crossing that he had been in the USA - 1926 - 1929 Pittsburgh PA.  (Which is interesting since Dorothy was born Pennsylvania)

On a Border crossing 21 Dec 1935 - Dorothy Edna Maier - born 1906 Scalp Level PA
Father given on this record as Mr Geo F Weston, Westover. PA. Husband Carl at the St Clare Road Montreal address.

New York Passenger List - 7 June 1932 - Carl Jacob Maier - Single. Genoa, Italy to New York on the Conte Biancamano.

California Passenger and Crew List - Carl J Maier born 1902 Hamilton. Aged 33 years. Married. Occupation:- Accountant.  Had been in the USA in 1932. Yokohama, Japan to Montreal via San Francisco (in transit - staying 2 weeks)  on the Chichibu Maru  arriving 21 April 1935. Also travelling Dorothy Maier born Pennsylvania and aged 29 years. US Citizen.
Last residence Calcutta. India.
Firm in Calcutta was :- Jeewaulal (1929) Lts. PO Box 2237 - Calcutta India.  Going to (Firm) Aluminium Ltd., 1000 Dominion Square Bldg. Montreal. Canada.

This looks like Dorothy with parents 1910 - 1930 - the marriage of Carl Maier and Dorothy looks to be between 1932 - 1935 according to immigration records.

1910 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MGH5-S1K

1920 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX9K-K4H

1930 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XCHW-ZQ1
Notice Dorothy was a teacher on this census.

An article in Altoona Mirror September 21, 1932 says they were married June 30. They were leaving for Calcutta for 3 years. Mr Maier was an "expert accountant" in the service of Aluminium Ltd..

Amazing info...thanks so much.
Obviously for this gentlemen to be the correct person...there would have to be a 2nd marriage.
Feasible. Perhaps Dorothy passed away?

Truth is the only records I have been able find about Rita Cramer (wife) is the (1) burial with her parents Louis Cramer & Mary Cramer (nee Brady). Earlier I had found Canada 1921 Census showing a Cramer family with Head of family - Louis. Wife Mary and 3 children - Mary (7), Mildred (4) and Rita E Cramer (2). In addition household had a Mary J Brady aged 60....Wife Mary's mother.

All later tied into the burial plots info....with Louis, his wife Mary, daughter Agnes and son in law Carl Maier being part of the plot...along with the purchaser Mary J Brady -nee Brennan.

No record of marriage for Carl & Rita, or any births of children, have been found to this point.

Unfortunately, there are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs which may hinder your search.    Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further - As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 85 years ago (They are up to about 1929 at the moment)

Yes BMD's are not too easy to track down.

One positive, based on signature comparison - I think we have found our man.
Border crossing docs signed by Carl Maier (1932/1935) vs my Carl Maier witness signature on the burial record for his mother-in-law Mary (Molly) Cramer - nee Brady in 1957 are very very similar.

Figuring out when/why he entered into a 2nd marriage & equally important, if he had any children with either wife, however is still to be solved.

I do wonder if there was a divorce involved.
