Looking for William Speed's parents - Ansford, Somerset in early 1700s
« on: Thursday 05 February 15 19:05 GMT (UK) »
I have been researching the Speed family from Somerset, and I am stuck trying to find William's parents. I do know that he was born in 1694 in Ansford and his father is listed as Jn. Speed. I know who he married, Elizabeth and had 4 children. Can you help me find this John Speed? Upon research I did find a John Speede born in Ansford Somerset in 1675, but from what I know the name never changed.

Thanks in Advance,

Janine Greig (nee: Speed).

Spellings are completely insignificant in earlier records. You can even find the same name spelled in different ways in the same sentence.  If John Speede fits in other ways then he's a good candidate.

However, there were other John Speeds born at suitable times; one in Ansford in the 1650s and others elsewhere in Somerset. Without other evidence, e.g. wills, it may be impossible to tell which is the right one.

Where did you see the record of William's birth in 1694. I can't find it.

David

I started on Familysearch, but I did find a few websites from other people searching...most of the information past the mid-1700s I am unsure of. Mainly this William. I am going to have to order a few birth certificates to make sure. Thanks for your help.
