Re: Ros Davies site
« on: Wednesday 11 February 15 13:56 GMT (UK) »
I found a death record of my ancestor John Hunter tinsmith B.1828 and died aged 63 in 1891 of TB. He was a widower at time of death. The address he had on the record was 35 Monaghan Street Newry.  Is there anyway of finding more information on this address.
I found an extract on the surnames list of the Ros Davies Co. Down site for a Hunter family of Monaghan street. This is probably a reference to my ancestors.  The reference was from the book - Old Families of Newry by RSJ 1993 page no. 230.  Would anybody know if the book might give more information before I try to get a hold of it.  I am trying to find his Spouse's name and other possible children.
Thanks a million
 :)

The book Old Families of Newry gives details from headstones in the Newry area.  It is currently half-price at:

http://www.booksireland.org.uk/store/all-departments/old-families-of-newry-district-gravestone-inscriptions-down-vol-21

I have no connection with said organisation!

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/

has the marriage of John Hunter to Elizabeth Graham on 19 April 1853 registered in Newry.  A possibility.

Hi Glensman,
I haven't got a clue of his spouse's name. Two children were James and Patrick Hunter. They were catholic.  But perhaps their father wasn't.  I'll check it out. If no bother could you send that marriage record link again on family search please.
Kind Regards

Glensman,
I found that record. I really don't know.  But family search has a death record for an Elizabeth Graham 1909 below marriage records. If this is the same lady then sadly no match as I am looking for a spouse that died before him in 1891.  I will check a few more possibilities and then hit GRONI when I narrow them down. If it was a catholic marriage record probably a bit early to have been registered. ???

Sorry about the wrong link.  As you say if the family was Catholic then this is unlikely to be the correct one.

You can check the Monaghan Street address history on:

http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/val12b.htm

I think you need to use the townland of Ballinlare to find it.

If this link to the 1901 census is to the correct son Patrick in Monaghan Street, then he was born around 1861:

yes, that is one of the sons and the other James was born 1854.  Patrick is in another house no. in Monaghan street during the 1901 and 1911 census. John Hunter the father and the other brother where deceased before the 1901 census.
