i think it was about 1922 that destroyed the irish censuses and other documents

Hi,
I think you mean in the 1916 uprising.
Well, not all were lost.
It just depends.
Before 1864 you really need the place...the county, the town land or the Mothers maiden name.
Then it also depends if they were in the forces, you see then we were in it altogether!
After 1864 the civil records are there in the HSE (National health offices) but certs. can be obtained in any of the offices in Ireland. 
You just have to keep digging.
I see you have a tree in Ancestry, you have Henry as the father. If this is the father then there is a Luke born in 1845 Enniskerry County Wicklow. It seems he was an only child. Mother was Mary Costello.

hi
the tree on ancestry hasnt been updated for a while. when i first started doing this i got that wrong about henry being his father.its only since ive got lukes marriage cert that i found william to be father so that tree needs updating. (the henry father thing didnt seem right anyway)
