Gray of Shipmeadow
« on: Saturday 14 February 15 15:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find my 2x great grandmother Phyllis Gray in the 1861 census? She was born in Shipmeadow, Suffolk, in 1838, was unmarried and had a daughter Alice Gray born in Bungay in 1859. I have her in earlier and later censuses in this area and I have her ancestry and descendants, but I would like to know who she was living with in 1861 to try and confirm the identity of the father of Alice. I believe him to be William Parnell the husband of Harriet Gray, Phyllis's sister.

Do you know where Alice was in 1861?

Where were Phyllis and/or Alice in1871?

Just found the above 1861 but already posted I agree with Cathy that it's a good possibility with the names being transposed.

I've found Phyllis and Alice in 1871 and they're in Turn Stile Lane Bungay living with Hannah and William Parnell.

The Alice Gray aged 23 in Turnstile Lane is another sister of Phyllis born 1838, so the names have not been transposed.  The Harriet Gray shown aged 19 married William Parnell.

Do you have the birth record for Alice? I can see Phyllis' birth record she appears to be a twin with Robert.

On the 1851 census the is no Alice, is she with someone else?

There is no Alice with the Gray family on the 1841  ???

I am looking again at the transposition of the names - not something I have considered before.
