1808 marriage Clynnog Vawr
« on: Monday 16 February 15 19:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi there
I have found a marriage (family search) Dec 23, 1808 between John Roberts and Jane Morris.  Does anyone know if the parish registers for Clynnog Vawr are available on findmypast or ancestry?   Ideally I want to view or obtain a copy of the register entry with witness signatures etc.  if that is feasible.

Hi
The Parish Registers are kept at Caernarfon Archives. They will supply a photocopy for a small fee plus postage.

Thank you Emyr.

They have helped me in the past when the ledger is readable/scannable.  I live in Vancouver so it is a long process to get an international money order.   I just wish they would charge more and allow either paypal or cc payment of some kind...

Best wishes
Heather

Hi Hiraeth,

You can find the marriage on FindMyPast it shows the register etc. Look on Caernarvonshire Marriage Transcriptions. I will give you the detail as they are written just in case you can't find it.
John Roberts of the Parish Llanfihangel Traethau in the County of Meirioneth to Jane Morris. Married in church by Banns 23rd December 1808 by me W Griffiths minister. (Neither could sign their names but left their mark.)In the presence of R Jones and David Roberts ( David Roberts appears as a witness to quite a few more marriages)
The marriage is stated as in the Parish of Capel Curig on the Transcription
The Bride's parish is stated as Clynnog Fawr
The Groom's Llanfihangel,

I hope you find it,

Kind Regards,

Ellen

Hi
Visited the Caernarfon Archives this afternoon and have a photocopy of the entry from the Clynnog Fawr Parish Wedding Register, and can confirm the info in Ellenmai's reply. The transcription on Find my Past is incorrect as regards Capel Curig.
Llanfihangel y Traethau is in Merionethshire and covers the Penrhyndeudraeth/Talsarnau area.

Thank you to everyone for your kindness and help.  This marriage is out of step with "known unknowns" so I must proceed very cautiously.

As usual in piecing together our family histories the pieces of puzzle are tantalizing but never proof positive as they almost always lead to further mysteries.   This is doubly true in North Wales due to patronymics and the commonality of names!

All the best
Heather
