St John The Devine, Holme in Cliviger near Burnley, Burials/Inscriptions.
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 16:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I've just visited this place today, hoping to find two gravestones, but without success.  Does anyone have access to the burials or gravestone inscriptions?  I'm looking for a John Dillicate buried 01 September 1923.  Also grave T8 contains at least two Parkinsons: Clara May buried 26 March 1943 and Margaret Jane buried 01 May 1947.
Best wishes,
Paul.

-It really is well worth while just browsing through the Lancs Parish Clerks online site in the wider Burnley /Cliviger area. As well as St John the Divine, there are other possible churches nearby - St John in Worsthorne, very close. Parkinson is certainly a local name. There's also the Briercliffe Society which has lots of entries for that area of Burnley, also online. hope you find what you are looking for.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Hi all,

Many thanks for that info.  I was aware of those burials on the Lan-OPC website, and the baptisms also.  Maybe I was not clear enough in my query. I was hoping to locate said gravestones without success.  I believe someone has transcribed the MI's there, but I'll probably have to make a trip to the Lancashire RO to view them.

I'm specifically interested in John Dillicate/Dilicate/Delicate.  I believe this man was born about 1844-6 Oldham, possible son of Robert Dilicate, a Spinner.  John married Ellen Taylor in 1870, and they had a child Alice Ann Dilicate about 1870.  I believe the same John takes up with Elizabeth Parkinson and they had at least 12 children but don't appeared to have (re)married.  I can trace Ellen through the Census's living with her unmarried sister Alice right up to her death in 1924.  She used her married name throughout and I have her burial details and MI.

My research indicates John had a sister Elizabeth who married Robert Wild/Wyld in 1861.  At the same church on the same date a Mary Taylor married John Winterbottom.  They were both 19/1842 and her father was William Taylor.  Ellen Taylor's father was also a William Taylor but I doubt the same William as I've yet to find this Mary Taylor with Ellen in the Census's.

The Dillicate name intrigues me as I have Dillicate ancestors in my tree, and I was wondering if this John Dillicate was probably somehow linked to my tree.

Best wishes,
Paul.
