Edward DEVEY b.1851 - Who did he marry?

I am trying to sort out the family of Edward DEVEY b.1851 in Tranmere, Cheshire, England. He is the son of Edward DEVEY b.c.1809 in Dulwich, Surrey, England - Occupation: Mariner and Jane HARLAND b.1818 in Yorkshire, England.

According to the England Marriage Index an Edward DEVEY married in Lancashire in 1875, 1885 and in 1897. Does this mean that he married three times or are there more than one Edward DEVEY?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is this marriage 14 February 1875 Prescott St Helens Lancashire
Edward Devey ..Mariner father Edward Devey Boston ?Mariner married Annie Dickson

He is listed as a widower in 1891 census so this looks like a death for Annie Devey b 1852 died 1885 Liverpool age 33 years

In the 1881 census, what appears to be your Edward Devey is married to an Anne born in Glasgow.
In 1891, he is listed as a widower. (RG12 Piece 2947 Folio 105 Page 17)

That must be his marriage in Mar Qtr 1897 to Martha COPE. She appears on the 1891 census with him.

Thank you rosie17 for the first marriage to Annie DICKSON on 14 February 1875. To clarify - are both the father and son Edward DEVEY given as Mariners?

It looks like Annie DEVEY died in 1885. Did Edward then remarry at the end of 1885?

or did he only remarry his housekeeper from the 1891 census in 1897?

Yes they were both mariners the marriage in 1897 to Martha cope looks like another one as she is with him in the census 1891 listed as a visitor ...Not sure about the one in 1885
