Edward Malim
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 17:54 GMT (UK) »
From a newspaper report I gather that Edward died at the Good Samaritan Hospital Los Angeles in June 1901.  Is there any way i can get hold of a death certificate? The family story is that he died in a gunfight!

There is a possible match on the death index for Edwin Malin here - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cabf1905/Los-Angeles/5/5LA-M.htm

I think you would have have to contact the county to see if the death certificate is available.  You may want to contact them through here - http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/dca/dcadeath.htm

This is a fairly old thread, so I'm not sure if the certificate was found in the interim.

There are some certificates from this time frame on Family Search, but you have to go through page by page.  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01e9a/  I didn't have any luck finding it.

Thanks all for your input.  I have the death notice from the newspaper, death certificates are trickier as I am in the UK.  I am happy that I have found him and resolved a family mystery.  No gunfight for Edward!

I found it.  They seemed to have all the M surnames who died June 1901 together, but not in alphabetical or chronological order.

He died of cancer, not a gunfight.
