I have thought all along that it was an 'H', so what about Hardwick without a 'd' :-\

Terrible writing though ;D

Joy

After looking through a few pages, I agree - my vote goes for Harwick or Harwich.

Thank you, Sami. Just reading this over my morning cuppa and I have to agree it does look like Harwich - hardly Norfolk but maybe they thought it was  ???
Worth a bit more puzzling..... ;D

I think you could be right Sami, comparing the two it certainly could be a 'H', it looks quite similar.

Then again Annette's comments could be plausible.

Thank you to all for puzzling this over for me, between everyone we may crack this.

Just having another look at this and I agree with Joy and Sami.  I think it is Hardwick without the 'd'.  Her husband James comes from Wickhambrook which is only about an hour away in today's distances.  Seems very feasible, I will look into this to see if I can find a birth or christening, I know her maiden name was Abbott.

familysearch & freereg only show Dickleburgh & Great Yarmouth as baptismal places for the 3 Elizabeth Abbotts 1795 - 1805.

Church I think for Hardwick is St Mary's Shelton. Register transcription complete on freereg.

I have little  knowledge of Norfolk geography  :-[ but freereg does have this info
Hardwick is about 9 miles N.E. of Diss.
There is also a Hardwick near King's Lynn. It is a hamlet of North Runcton.

Thank you josey.  I have very little knowledge of Norfolk too, hence the struggle.  I will have a look at your information tomorrow. Much appreciated.

Really embarrassing for me though - I was born in Bury St Edmunds near the Norfolk border [in my defence I was taken to London aged 3 months as my mother hated being in the country even though there was a war on ;D] & my sister has lived in Diss for 30 years!!

There is also a Hardwick in Suffolk about 8 miles from Wickhambrook, but it says "Hardwick is an extra-parochial place. Search surrounding parishes for records and information."

Try this site for locating parishes

Did their marriage give any clues as to where they were from. (guess you've checked that)
