Hope I am doing this right, I am a newbie at all this. I am trying to find out more about Joseph Martin Gilchrist, born 1845 in Monaghan Ireland. He come out to NZ on 23rd Sept 1872 on St Leonard with 2 sisters ?  I would like to know who his parents were and did they come out as well.

Does his 1923 death printout not list parents?
Are they listed as Unknown?

Year 1923/Reg 9408 Gilchrist  Joseph Martin. Aged  79Y

This 1878 news snip seems to give his father's name.

"At St. Augustine a Church, Waimate, Joseph Martin Gilchrist, fourth son of Mr.John Gilchrist, L.S., Bloomneld. Ireland, to Lizzie, fourth daughter of Mr. Ed. MaxwelL Krla Park. co. Tipperary. "

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I find this site so great, so much to learn. Joseph two sisters were Kate Louise and Sarah? So far I haven't done any printouts and I can't open the site for newspaper either. I guess its something I have to learn or maybe something is not connected properly. Do I need to do a down load for this site, that might be my problem

This death of Catherine Louisa TULLEY (nee Gilchrist) would give you the parents' names if known to the informant.
1886/1774    Tulley Kate Louisa. Aged   30Y

 Likewise the information contained on a printout of the marriage of Kate GILCHRIST and TULLEY would give the answer to your query about the parents.
1876/2594   Kate Louisa GILCHRIST/ John Ransome TULLEY
