William Evans (b 1829 Bangor)
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 02:25 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my Welsh ancestry and I would be most obliged for some help. William Evans emigrated to Australia, he was born 1829 North Wales, parents William Evans, miner, and Ellen Owens. On some of his children's birth cert's it is recorded that William was born in Anglesey, North Wales, and on some it's recorded he was born in Bangor, North Wales. It looks like these two places are quite different, could it be that these two places were part of the same parish? Thank you for your consideration,
Donna.

Donna,

Welcome to Rootschat !!

The two places are very close to one another geographically.  However I do not know if they were under the same parish at that time but it is highly likely they were.

There is a parish map on this link -

Bangor is separate from Anglesey, which has numerous individual parishes.

Think Suz has a point there.

If the children were born in Australia then I wouldn't put as much weight on the location of William's birth.  But if they were born in Wales the location is likely to be more of an issue.

Thanks Suz, Richard, Craclyn and David. William married in Australia, the children were born in Australia.  He came as ships crew, worked around local waters with coastal traders for a while then officially 'came on land' and emigrated 1858.
Information from their birth cert's and his marriage cert provide the only information we have. He was noted to be present at their births so he provided the information. On his marriage cert his father is recorded as William Evans, miner, mother Ellen Owens. He named his first son Thomas, which may be his father's fathers name? other childrens names include Ellen, William, Elizabeth, James, and Henry.
