He might have been driving an old bus wit solid tyres - but in the 1920s when the cloche hats appeared!

The bus doesn't look as if it's brand new - some of those doors look a bit knocked about.

but if you do a search for charabanc in the Photo section you get loads of them. And they're hilarious...the ladies all look like something out of the old Giles cartoons wiv their 'ats and their 'andbags

Plus the Cloche hat was invented in 1908, but very fashionable in the late 20s.  Not saying these ladies were way ahead of the fashion stakes wearing them in 1919, but it is possible.
