Cannot find death record
« on: Saturday 14 March 15 20:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have a marriage for Elizabeth George (widow of James Martin) to Hugh Docherty 13 June 1862 in Bothwell (age 41). She was first married to George Russell but any combination of names does not give me a death certificate on SP. I have even tried mothers maiden name (Porteous)in the search and still nothing
The 1881 census has her in Wishaw. and ancestry trees say she was born in Hamilton but a search of the Cambusnethan , Hamilton MI's still nothing.
This has been going on for years where did this woman die? any help would be much appreciated.

Hi ,

Except for a few examples the mother's maiden name is not indexed for deaths until after 1973.

The old forum posts, say Hugh's parents were Hugh DOCHERTY & Margaret HARVEY (who seems to be in the Census as b abt 1840/1841) - his death not being found by researchers then, either.

Has Hugh's death subsequently been found after 1881, or is he also a mystery in that regard?

Cheers

Hi bravaal,

I looked up one of Elizabeth's children's deaths (from her marriage to George Russell) and Elizabeth was deceased by 1911.
I know that's not much help but at least it gives you a time frame to search in!

Also a Hugh Docherty in 1901 census showing as a patient (Institutional) in Irvine, Ayrshire, aged 68 and Coal Miner.  Once again, not sure if this is your Hugh but details seem to match up.

Will keep trying for you!
