Jospeh Arthur BELLENGER
« on: Thursday 19 March 15 12:28 GMT (UK) »
Joseph Arthur was baptised at South Cerney on 7 Mar 1865. His parents were Jospeh Bellenger and Emily Sarah Bellenger (nee Jewell). The corresponding BMD reference is Q1 1865 Cirencester 6a 331.

He appears on the 1871 census as Arthur, aged 5, living with his parents at the Lodge, Siddington, Cirencester. He then disappears, though he may be living with his mother at 10 Crofton Street, Wandsworth in 1881, with both using the surname PARSONS.

Did he marry? And if so under what name? Joseph or Arthur? Bellenger or Parsons?

And when and where did he die?

Utterly confused.

Veteran RootChatters might recognise this thread as a continuation from an earlier classic thread of many pages on the Bellenger/Parsons/Berry family. But i thought that in order to make some progress I might break it down into more manageable chunks.

I would like to re-fresh this thread as it never really got anywhere.

I can state that this is NOT the Joseph Bellenger who married Tryphena PAGE, as he was born in Blackfriars.

Joseph or Arthur remains a real mystery.

Any idea why his mother is using the name Parsons?  Has she remarried?

And do you know what happened to little Herbert who is 1 in 1871 - under Parsons as well?

No - she did not re-marry as far as I know.

If you search Gloucester and Surrey forums using BERRY or BELLENGER, you will find a lot of background on the family, including the various name changes!

Some of this is speculation, some is fact. It is very complicated, and would clutter this thread to repeat it. Most of the family ended up in Surrey.

The key figure is Emily Sarah Jewell/Bellenger/Parsons/Berry.

That doesn't look like the same family at all.  Father is James and mother and children born in a different county and the children are different  :-\

I can only suggest that you look at the threads, as many experienced RootChatters such as AVM28 came to the conclusion that they were the same family.

There are many links that have been discovered between the BERRYs, BELLENGERs and PARSONs.

As a starting point, try the Berry family in Worplesdon, Surrey in the 1891 census. Because that family certainly is really a Bellenger family.

I was only looking at this thread as this was the chunk you had broken off.  Sorry couldn't help.
