Windmill
« on: Thursday 19 March 15 13:48 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor was a Miller in 1891 living at Windmill Cottage, Exning Road, Newmarket, Cambridge. Is there still a Windmill there, or does anyone have a picture of it please?
regards

Have you considered taking a walk down Exning Road on google maps, or similar, and seeing what you can see?

Yes, I did have a look on Google maps, but could only see 1930 type houses. I wondered if anyone living locally had any knowledge of the Windmill's existence, and perhaps had a photograph.
regards.

If I have the correct windmill it was where the college football pitch is now.

There is a photo of Langleys Mill, Newmarket on the following site:

Thanks for that, and I see that Exning Mill is listed TL 625 658, but looks like it is long gone now. Maybe someone has a postcard or photo in a local book somewhere-you can always hope.

Langleys Mill was the one on Exning Road.  The co-ordinates match exactly the one marked on the map link I sent.

Exning Mill was in Exning not on Exning Road, Newmarket.
