"Callendoune" this is the name of our farm. I believe it may be Gaelic for either "Woody fort" or "behind the hill" Can anyone help please?

Hmmm.

It's always a bit dodgy trying to guess the origin of a name from modern spellings. Best thing to do is get in touch with the Scottish Place Names Society http://www.spns.org.uk/ and see what they can come up with.

Gaelic coille means a wood or forest, and dłn means a fort, castle or mound, but there is no guarantee that your farm name is derived from those.

Call means hazel and cala(dh) means a harbour. Donn means brown.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
