Hello Whiting53

Welcome to Roots Chat.
Unfortunately I have been unable to find anywhere that holds archives of Outspan . I feel sure there must be some, if only I could find where.
It would be interesting for you to find a photograph of the first edition depicting your Mother-in-Law.
I will keep trying.

Thank you  pampoen   for addresses. One of them showed what I think was the first edition, if so it showed a feature of Whiting53 's Mother in law. A glamorous blond  !  very daring in those times.

A warm welcome to Roots Chat.

As you know I am trying to find where Reginald Jabez Rigby fits into the publication of  Outspan.
Was he the editor, a journalist or a printer ?
Perhaps you can find out from the copy you have.

Look forward to hearing from you

Here is a link you may find interesting...............

http://frankbellamy.blogspot.co.za/2012/12/frank-bellamy-and-outspan-magazine.htm

and while I don't want to get into a political discussion on thus forum, I lived through those times and still continue to live in this country. My husband was part of the conscripted forces who served during those times.  The Soweto riots were during the late 70's and was a terrible time for all concerned. Many people left the country after 1994 and took their skills with them, we chose to remain.............I don't judge them it was their choice at the time.

The Outspan magazine had long ago ceased to exist and was named the "Personality" which was a fortnightly magazine carrying various articles, it was by no means radical.

If people are going to make comments please do your research and do not presume that you know what happened here by the overseas press which tend to focus on the bad that goes on here rather than the lot of good that does happen.

As a country we have problems, but so does everywhere.............
