Is Louisa Horlock (b1825) a twin?
« on: Wednesday 25 March 15 00:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I noted in the 1841 UK Census that Louisa Horlock of Stourpaine, Dorset, who married William Melmoth in 1843/44, was 15 years of age at the time. There was also a Charlotte Horlock at the same residence who was also noted as 15. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to if these two sisters were twins as there is a history of twins on my mother's side of the family?

Cheers,
Mario

In the 1841 census, the ages of people over 15 were rounded down.

So both girls were between 15 and 19 years of age
They might have been twins, but might not have been
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

Thanks for the info, it was something I was not aware of!

There is a baptism record for Charlotte Horlock 13 January 1824 Stourpaine Dorset father Thomas mother Jane also on the same page baptism for a Thomas 2 January 1823 ...Not seeing one for Louisa so if she had been a twin they would have been baptised on the same day  :)

Thanks for the information, it's very much appreciated. During my research on the web I have come across birth years for Louisa of both 1824 & 1825. However, the fact she doesn't show up as being baptised at the same time as Charlotte is pretty conclusive in my eyes... Louisa & Charlotte were not twins.

Cheers,
Mario
