Hi snaptoo

I wonder if those dates are wrong as NZ BDM's have births for a Martha and David Gordon earlier

1880/7964        Gordon    Donald Stuart                   Martha   David
1882/4176        Gordon     Mary McMaster                   Martha   David
1885/18070   Gordon    Edward Bruce Killen            Martha   David
1887/9559    Gordon           William Patteson Pollock    Martha   David

Cheers Janette

Many thanks for all the links. Unfortunately that link that relates to my original post seems to go round and round in circles ::) ::) I will try googling it and see what happens!

Hi Spades

I think I might have a photograph of Rev David Gordon if anyone is interested.

If you can get access to a book called "The Old Place", written by Ralph Richardson, about his father and grandfather Richardson in Marton, there is mention of Rev David Gordon as a family friend.

Hi Janette :D

Many thanks for those links - he is definitely my man (I think :-\ ) I was under the impression that one of the children had died during the voyage, and was buried at sea :( :(  Thinking about it, it is his wife that I am really interested in, and children of course!

It is good to see that the eldest girl did so well at school, then went on to marry another Reverend! It must run in the family, as my paternal grandfather was a Reverend too! At least one of her uncles was, too. More of that later ;D

Hi Ian :D

Many thanks for the offer of the photo, it is not essential but it would certainly be interesting :D
I tried googling that book, but nothing came up at all :D It was interesting to hear about it though.

Little did I know that I was almost treading in my ancestors footsteps when I spent 6 months in NZ in 1983/4, and I have just realised that it was 100 years after they arrived!!!!!!  I have just been studying my map and reading my diary - I arrived in Wanganui on 11 march 1984, having travelled by bus from Wellington. So would have been very close to Marton en route!!

Many thanks once again to both of you, for all your help I think that I have got enough information to keep me going for a while!!!!!!!!

Hello snapto
If you are still looking for info on the Gordon family I can help. I live in Ireland and am doing the Gordon family history.
There were 2 Rev David Gordon's who were half brothers -  their father married twice and had a David by both wives. The older David was ordained in Sion Mills and went to New Zealand first. The second David was the minister in Conlig before he was called to New Zealand and one child did die on the way over.

Love to hear from you.

Suz
