South St, Gorton/Longsight/Ardwick

Daniel Donbavand, born Warrington 1809, was living in South St, Gorton from 1868 to 1887 according to various records. This is to the west of Longsight Railway Depot, and is now part of Ardwick.

In 1871, according to the Rate Books, he and wife Elizabeth Ann (nee Barton, on HMS Rodney, Portsmouth 1821) ought to be at number 14. By 1875 he was renting number 12, where the couple appear in the 1881 census (RG11/3907 folio 26 pg 2).

But, I can't locate them.

Numbers 2,4,6,8 & 63 are on RG10/3979 folio 86 pg 1. The 6th dwelling mentioned on the Enumerator's Walk page is on page 49 of the district.

George Allman is at number 4 (at the Grey St end) in both 1871 and 1881, so I think I have the correct street.

The other section of South St can be found on RG10/3980, and covers numbers 200-100, the Stirling Castle pub, then 213-101, 52-46, and (temptingly) 20-16. No mention of 10, 12 or 14. The Enumerator's Walk for this district is not on line.

I think the Stirling Castle was on the eastern corner of South St / Ducie St.

So, was Daniel just missed out in 1871?
