My Grandfather Richard Haggett b.1893 Newport Mon d Sept 1948. Was put in Gloucester Prison  when he was about 18yrs. I have no idea why, so I would love to find out the reason. Can anyone suggest how I go about this?

Hi,

There is a newspaper article on Find My Past regarding a Richard Haggett (18) and Walter Taylor (18), both youths from Hardwicke Reformatory, who were charged with burglary at Mr Parsons house January 10th.

25 February 1911 - Gloucestershire Chronicle - Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Have not got full access, perhaps someone can fill in the gaps  :)

Hardwicke Reformatory was about 4 miles south-west of Gloucester.

Young Richard was also sent to prison for six weeks in 1909 when he was 16, for absconding from the Reformatory for a third time.

Hi franpow,
I shall be in Gloucestershire Archives after the Easter break and am prepared to do a lookup at the Gloucester Prison records to see what I can find if you wish?
