marriage of James McAuley and Fanny Rice approx. 1865
« on: Sunday 29 March 15 00:10 GMT (UK) »
I have searched on Ulster Historical foundation and Ancestry but found nothing, or I'm not skilled at searching? I'm supposing they were married around 1865 because I think their eldest son was born in 1865. It appears that each of their children were born in the Shankhill Parish/District and baptised as Church of Ireland. Where else can I look for a marriage record? What would be the church for that parish? Thank you in advance.

Hi,
The closest which I can find is JOHN MACAULAY married Margaret Rice on 26 Dec 1878 in Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Shankill, Belfast. The fathers' names were William Macaulay and William Rice. The Parish Church in Shankill is St. Annes.

Wonder if it was a Catholic pre-registration (1864) marriage?

Extracted births for some of the children- other children could have been born pre-1864

Thank you    kingskerswell, aghadowey and BallyaltikilliganG for your help and direction. I think I'll focus on PRONI and their church records for St. Anne's Shankhill to see if that reveals anything. Kind Regards.

It looks like the records are only available at the PRONI research room. I need to access the records online or have them emailed to me, do you suppose I could get this information directly from the church or the parish?

St. Anne's charges 15 pounds sterling per hour of search. Unfortunately, I can only estimate the marriage date so the search could easily start adding up. Before taking this route do you think there is any possibility that they may have been married at another (church of Ireland) church in the Shankill area? Thanks.

Hi,
In Ireland it was usual to get married in the bride's church and then the family would follow the husband's religion. Mixed (Protestant/Catholic) tended to make different arrangements.
