Bullen....Banham area of Norfolk - 1803
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 10:59 BST (UK) »
I've been away from the family tree for a few years and I'm starting to get myself all confused about one of my ancestors. I'm trying to find information about Bullen Moore - he was born in 1802 and died in Guiltcross in 1893. He is not really the problem but the details of his birth and his parents.

I think that his mother was and Elizabeth Moore and that he was illegitimate...not sure why but believing his father was a Bullen Chapman born in 1780ish. I've since discovered a marriage for a Bullen Chapman to a Martha Hewitt and am wondering whether this is the same man - not a common name.

I know that the Bullen family was prolific in that particular area of Norfolk and am wondering whether my Bullen's are in some way related as its not a common Christian name.

Can anyone help me with any further information.....a link between Elizabeth Moore and Bullen Chapman perhaps or details of Bullen Chapman's parentage?

Thank you

Edit: Sorry Yokel thought that  you ment she was a widow when she married but now realise you ment she was a widow in the 1851 census. (Having a senoir moment!)

Thank you - it would seem then from that baptism record then that someone called 'Chapman' was his father...still not sure why I have Bullen Chapman as his father though?

Obviously Bullen Chapman himself (if he is the father) didn't recognise himself as the father as he later went on to marry Martha Hewitt and not Elizabeth. For one of my other great great grandmother's there is a court bastardy hearing for maintenance for the child. I wonder if one of these exists for Bullen, whether Elizabeth raised one? This would then give me a definite idea of whether Bullen Chapman was his father or not.

I cannot seem to find even a tenuous link between Bullen and Elizabeth.
