Hi, Ive been researching for a long time.. And this one has me stumped!..
My Ancestor has a fairly common name, which is making it harder..
Every mention i have of her she states her name as EMMA KING , And states she was born in Brentford, Middlesex. The family Moved to Chatham in Kent, and this is the first record i have of her in 1871.. I have no baptism either.
On Census here are her ages.
1871 - 10yrs old
1881 - 20yrs
1891 - 32yrs
1901 - 40yrs
1911 - 51yrs
After much musing i have found her death certificate, In 1934, Stating her age as 76yrs..and which states name LUCY EMMA KING otherwise EMMA MAY ... informant is her daughter, (no mention anywhere previously of lucy)
Now i know she never married, although she lived with a John May for many years, and when on the 1911 census she is calling herself Emma May..
I know her parents were Frederick King & Maria nee Stops..
I have found the parents and elder sister on the 1861, but no Emma.. she might not have been born then of course..
I have searched through the dates 1858 - 1862 and nothing... well i have ordered 3 copies and all are the wrong Emma!..
I also have a couple of workhouse records which state her birth as 1859.
She must have been a wonderfully strong woman as she had 14children, including triplets, she sadly lost quite a few children.. she never married.. and lived with 2 different men that i know of..
Do you think i will ever find Emmas Birth, or should i just give up
