Tracing a family member
« on: Wednesday 01 April 15 12:19 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I wonder if anybody can help. Im trying to trace my grandads family. The only info I have is that my grandad Norman Dornan was born in Dublin Ireland in 1923. I now have his marriage cert and his dad is down as Herbert or Hubert Dornan. At some stage they moved to London by 1946 living in Ealing London.

Herbert is down as a Foreman but this could also say Fireman as writing not very clear on marriage cert & Norman is down as a Railway Fireman.

Thanks for any help

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

If only you knew their religion it would have made searching Census easier as you could have searched by religion too.

Was he born in Dublin? previous topic said Norman was born in Belfast  ???

There's one Herbert Dornan living in Belfast in 1901-

However, sometimes Hugh and Hubert are interchangeable which gives many more choices.

There are 2 births recorded to the 1946 marriage in 1952 and 1957 - both in the London area

There is no death recorded for Norman or his wife so they may still be alive

Rootschat has a "no living persons policy" so details of the children etc cannot be given here

It may be a coincidence but there is a 1942 marriage for a Dornan whose christian name and middle initial are exactly the same as those of Normans son

The marriage was also in Middlesex and there is no death recorded on available info
