The only problem with Clara's baptism is it says she was living in Whiston and all the other children's baptisms give Prescot. They are not Ravenhead so is this the wrong family?

Missed out Mary Elizabeth's baptism!

Baptism: 17 Apr 1861 St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, Lancashire, England
Mary Elizabeth Evans - [Child] of William Evans & Elizabeth
    Abode: Prescot
    Occupation: Brewer
    Baptised by: F. L. Cursham

Could it be that she lived opposite the church at Ravenhead rather than was born there? Perhaps a directory of the time would help?

I'm still puzzled as to whether this is the right person. The St John's Ravenhead website states that"she was raised in the corner shop opposite St Johns on Crossley Road"

Corner shop doesn't tie in with the father the brewer whose address in 1871 is Turnpike Road Whiston. However if we are with the right Clara maybe she was brought up by older siblings or with other family members following the death of Elizabeth in 1877.

Definitely need a directory entry for who was living at this corner shop.

Did a bit of googling and found this on the St Helens Connect site. It's the gravestone of William Evans and his family and gives his date of death as 7 October 1888. The grave is stated to be in Prescot Graveyard which I would take to mean St Mary's Prescot. The date of death ties in with the date of burial I found.

It would therefore appear that we have the right family but have not yet tied Clara to the corner shop and Crossley Road. I wondered if Thomas Jones who Clara and Louisa are boarding with is a relation and they are living with him and his daughter because their mother has died. Perhaps someone could find more from St Helen's library.

Gibel

Thanks for the additional info. Will have to absorb it and will come back to you. One initial problem is Laura the Louisa of 1869???
