I would rule out Fanny Elizabeth first - she has the right mother  :)

Depending where she is in 1911 and who she is with could be helpful.

Where would I look for where she was in 1911? Further info is Mary Ellen Dawson was born in 1885 and came to Canada and married here.
She would have been about 23 or 24 at the time of Fanny Elizabeth's birth if this is the same Mary ellen? Her mother and grandmother all had children out of wedlock. See a pattern here?

Thanks

Thanks Millepede!
I took a look and could not see Fanny Elizabeth Dawson ages 1-2.

If she was left in a orphanage or a work house would she have been recorded in the 1911 census?
Thanks

She should have been recorded somewhere.  We know the 2 year old who died 1912 was alive census time - unless the death age is wrong  :-\

I suppose you could get the birth for this baby as confirmation the mother was your Mary Ellen.
The address might be one you recognise.

The link posted to the baptism with mother Mary Ellen does look spot on.

Births Dec 1909
DAWSON  Fanny Elizabeth
Derby  7b 577

Deaths Sep 1912
DAWSON  Fanny E  2
Derby  7b 549

Assuming E is Elizabeth and this is the same little girl.  Don't want to lead you to the wrong person.

Hi Milliepede

I have been looking at other entries and I believe we have the right child here. I think to verify this the next step is to apply for some certificates. Its unfortunate that I can not find her in the 1911 census, as you are right, it would be interesting to see whom she was staying with at the time.
I'm wondering if the child was with the unknown fathers family. I guess we will never really know.
Thanks for all your help.
