Hughes Llanllechid 1871. Can anyone find any of them in 1881 please?
« on: Sunday 05 April 15 22:01 BST (UK) »
Hello again!

Taking advantage of a free Ancestry weekend......

I have this family in Llanllechid in 1871:

Owen Hughes  60   wid   Head            b Llandwrog
John Hughes    27  unm  Son              b Llanllechid
Ellen Hughes    30  unm  Dau              b Llanllechid`
William Hughes 4           Grandson       b  Llanllechid

I am interested particularly in Ellen and William.

1881, there is a William in Denio, boarding as a farm labourer, birthplace Bangor.

There is also a Mother and son Ellen and William Hughes in Vron Lodge. He is an apprentice joiner , but mother's age, birthplace are askew. She describes herself as a sailor's wife, which I can understand if child was illegitimate, but the other factors seem a bit far out!

Ellen could  have married and changed her name by 1881.

Anyone find anything else, please?

Thank you

Bronwen

Have you looked for a marriage for Ellen on freebmd?
Have you looked for a death for Owen on freebmd?

Thanks Carole.

That'll keep me out of mischief for a while :)

I have found a death for an Owen Hughes of the right age in Bangor in 2nd quarter of 1871.
I have found 24 possible marriages for an Ellen Hughes in Bangor alone between 1871 and 1881.
I believe I have found Owen's son John living away as a boarder in 1881. However I can't find an Ellen and William Hughes in 1881, where details are consistent.

I have also looked back to tried to identify in 1871:
1881 Census.  Ellen Hughes, Vron Lodge,  Head   b Pwllhelli   age 46   Sailor's wife
William Hughes Vron Lodge Son    b Bangor    age 15    Apprentice Joiner

However I can't seem to find them in 1871.  ???

Thanks.
