George Prentice aquitted of assult and Robbery
« on: Wednesday 08 April 15 11:33 BST (UK) »
I have located a court record from the Autumn Assizes, Midland Circuit, Warwick, 06/11/1878 that I think is for "my" George Prentice.

George Prentice, John Lee and James Taylor were acquitted of Assault and Robbery with malice.

"my" George was born Q2 1837 so would have been aged 41 at the time of the trial. He was born in Kings Norton and lived in Ladywood.

I can't find anything else about this trial online and am unable to visit the Birmingham library to look in the archives there. Anyone able to help?

Hi
Have you tried newspapers?
Find my past(I don't have a sub so can only do a search)
Western Daily Express 14.10.1878
George Prentice of Birmingham committed for trial on charge of highway robbery with violence on the night of 17th last.
Leamington spa Courier 16.11.1878 gives the three men assaulting a Frederick Hawker at Stratford on the 18th of August.
Unfortunately it also gives their ages James Taylor 20 labourer,John Gee 18 labourer and George Prentice age 21 labourer

SORRY

Thanks for that ciderdrinker, how on earth did you find it?

I have the free trial of findmypast at the moment and had done a search for George Prentice with no results, and I still cant find either of those now! I must be doing something wrong.

I dont think it is my George though anyway, as I have one born in 1837 which would have made him 41 and one born in 1868 which would have made him 11.

and now that I have actually got some results I'm quite glad he isn't "my" George as he appears to be a bit of a "wrong un" as my gran liked to say!
