Fermoy Wedding c1900
« on: Thursday 09 April 15 21:00 BST (UK) »
This is my first post and I have a feeling it is the longest of long shots.

I am trying to put names to anybody at all in this Fermoy wedding picture c.1900. My wife and I think there may be a link with the old Lucas family (Rathealy House, Fermoy) but we are not sure. The photographer (Conche) appears to have had a studio in Fermoy around 1900.

Fermoy historian, Christy Roche, very kindly looked at the picture but alas could not identify the wedding party.

Any nudge forward in this quest will be much appreciated.

I don't know if this constitutes a nudge forward or not, but if you search:

http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

for marriages between 1890-1910 of someone named Lucas and registered in Fermoy, you get just one return.  This is for the marriage of Ada Elizabeth Lucas in 1896.

You can also search for marriages in Fermoy between certain dates without a person's name and trawl through the returns.  Not for the faint-hearted.

Most definitely a nudge forward and much appreciated. Thanks for such a swift and helpful response.

Ada Elizabeth Lucas married John J. Russell (no date given in Burke's Irish family Records) but 1896 seems about right. If we can identify one or two of the people in the photo this would confirm it. Does the dress and look of the picture suggest 1896?

Again, huge thanks.

If you post a link to this thread on the Photo Restoration and Dating board the should be able to help with the date.

The advice from the photograph restoration board so far, suggests that this wedding could not have taken place before 1900.

So I had another search for Lucas marriages between 1900-1908.  This turns up 83 such records. The only one which seems likely geographically is for George Lucas in 1900 registered in Cork.

Thanks 'glensman' for going the second mile with this.

We'll check out George Lucas though his name does not sound familiar. Your original comment about searching Fermoy weddings between specific dates sounds daunting but perhaps may be the next step.

Dare I ask if there is a link that will bring me straight to the Fermoy page that you have looked at at?
Again, huge thanks for your helpfulness.
