Help with two outstanding SA immigrants?
« on: Saturday 11 April 15 08:02 BST (UK) »
Hi all

My ancestors all arrived in South Australia in the 19th century, aboard 26 ships across the colony's first half century. I have the details of 24 of those. The two ships I don't know are those two which carried the last of my colonial immigrants. They are:

William BOWYER of Gloucestershire, arrived late 1870's, in his early 20's.

Eliza DAVEY of Cornwall, arrived late 1880's, in her early 20's.

I will post more info on each shortly.

Thanks for any assistance you can give  :)
NSW Convict 1836: Peter WIFFIN (alias VIVIAN)
VDL Convict 1841: Richard REES
SA Pioneers (<1847): Hornsby, Wallis, Willoughby, Floate, Mills, Chesson, Degenhardt.
SA Old Colonists (<1857): Messenger, Tyler, McFeat, Ladner, Edwards, Cassidy, Rhodes, Shaw, Waye, Sibly.
SA Colonists (<1901): Jones, Pike, Bowyer, Davey.

William BOWYER, od Frampton Cotterell, near Bristol, Gloucestershire, 10 Apr 1857. He married Charlotte Eva TYLER in Bristol on 14 Oct 1877. Charlotte (born Mt Barker, SA, 6/12/1856) was the daughter of James TYLER, also of Frampton Cotterell, who with his wife Charlotte nee WERRETT arrived in SA aboard the Isabella Hercus in 1849. Mrs Tyler died at Mt Barker in 1864.

So at sometime between 1864 and 1877, the Tyler family returned to Bristol. Charlotte marries William, and she returns to Australia with her new husband. They have 6 children born in various locations around South Australia, the first being Archibald Raymond BOWYER on 24 Dec 1880. I am not aware of any UK born children.

So this gives a three year window for the arrival of Mr & Mrs William BOWYER. Charlotte's father remained in Bristol, passing away in 1888.

Eliza DAVEY was born about 1867. When she married David REES at Marrabel, SA on 24 Feb 1891, she was already five months pregnant. Her father was listed on the marriage certificate as William Davey, of Cornwall.

That is all I have on her prior the birth of my great-grandfather, Richard Davey REES, on 18 Jun 1891.

On-board the “Chimborazo”. 11th of August 1879. Bound for Adelaide and Melbourne and Sydney.

William Bowyer. 32. Married. Labourer. English. Contract had to land at Adelaide.
Mrs.E.                   30.married. English.
There could be an infant female child listed next but it is indecipherable.

Thanks John

Though by my reckoning, these Bowyers are several years older than mine, whose ages would be 22 and 23 at that time.

the child's name looks like maybe Eleanor?
