A mention in a Lancashire directory on Google Books places him at 31 Great Homer Street, Liverpool - not sure what year but that was his address when he married Sarah Jones per an announcement in the Liverpool Mercury for September 7, 1878.

Thank you all very much for your information.  I am still struggling to find any reference to his birth - about 1851 father John, maybe in Dublin.
