What is a Pall Boy?
« on: Wednesday 15 April 15 15:09 BST (UK) »
I have found in an 1881 census record for Herbert Hawkins age 15 living at 14 Colville Rd. Kensington, Middlesex as being a Pall Boy Domestic. What is a Pall Boy? I checked Google and found nothing.

Thanks for any definition you can find.

Hi having checked the image I think it says Page Boy.

Thank you. I guess the transcriber misread it. Page Boy makes much more sense.

Or a Hall Boy
This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

The original image definitely shows Page Boy. The descender from the 'g' has got a little muddled up in the word on the line below which is perhaps why it was wrongly read and transcribed as Pall Boy.
