Don't think that the widow in 1958 can be her as Edward Gatton didn't die until 1974, in Croydon so on balance would think that they didn't emigrate either.

I can only see mention of one Edward (S or Stanley) Gatton on freebmd so I assume he is the only one.

1951 Electoral register 9 Sinclair Road, Hammersmith has a Edward Stanley Gatton but no evidence of a Mrs Gatton.  Still there in 1962 without a wife

added:  the UK address quoted on the travel details for Beatrice is 72 Maypole Road, East Grinstead, Sussex. 

There is a child born in 1930 surname Gatton mmn Abbott in East Grinstead reg district - Beatrice could just have been pretending to be a widow

Yes actually maybe you are right Rosie and so the traveller could have been her.

Looking at this thread from an outsider point of view,I would say that Beatrice had left her husband in 1958 visited then and settled in Canada for a new life .
Declaring her status as widowed would sever her ties completely.

 The  Travel  documents  found ,  also  gives her  status  as  married   and  occupation  as  a waitress
