Robert Barlow, b1789 Chirk, Denbighshire

Hi,  Looking for a marriage 1805 - 1820,  there is nothing listed in Denbigh or Flint PR's so I am searching Cheshire. The CPRdb is not working today.  FS show a marriage to Alice Jackson 13 Jan 1810 (Frodsham) and another to Hannah Hough 7 July 1812 (Knutsford).  There is a death recorded FreeBMD Wrexham July 1845, not sure if this is the Robert Barlow in question.

No records onfmp for Robert in Wales but a few more from Cheshire to add to the list plus some detail on the ones you know about, depending how accurate the ages are you may be able to discount some.

The Frodsham marriage states that they both resided there.

The Knutsford marriage states they were both of the parish.
Robert of Toft, Knutsford, Chester, farmer, was 20 & Hannah was 17.
Betty/Betsy Barlow was one of the witnesses.

There is an entry in the 1841 census for Robert Barlow who married Alice Jackson. They are living in Chapel Lane, Frodsham and the household is as follows:

Robert Barlow, age 55, Labourer, not born in county.
Alice Barlow, age 50, born in county.
Thomas Barlow, age 20, born in county.
Sarah Barlow, age 14, born in county.
John Barlow, age 11, born in county.

I cannot find Robert Barlow in the 1851 but there is an entry for Alice living in Runcorn. The household comprises:

James Lockett, head married, age 37, Shoe Maker, born ?
Sarah Lockett, wife, age 24, born Cheshire, Frodsham.
William Lockett, son, age 7, Scholar, born Runcorn.
Alice Barlow, widow, age 62, Annuitant, born Frodsham.

On the face of it, the details indicate it is possible that this was the Robert Barlow born 1789 in Chirk. The death in 1845 could well be him.

Thank you kilwinning and Jo,   I have discarded the Knutsford Marriage as Betty Barlow listed as a whiteness is not one of my Barlow's (I don't think)  The Frodsham marriage is a possibility, as you say the  1851 census listing his wife as a widow ties in with Robert's death in 1845.  Unfortunately the Frodsham parish is not listed on the CPRdb.

I wish there was a way of tying Robert's parents Richard and Dorothy to the marriage.

I think you might ask for a kind Rootschatter to do a look up (or two) for you in the Cheshire Record Office. As you say, Frodsham parish records are not accessible online. I think that some people involved in Rootschat visit the RO regularly, no names but I know who you are!

The marriage details would be a start.

Another option would be to ask someone to look up his baptism in Chirk. That would be in Denbighshire RO.

There are some Family Trees for Robert Barlow on Ancestry. They show he died in Frodsham in 1841 at the age of 55.

I have the Chirk transcripts V3   The entry for Richard: parents Richard and Dorothy, no other info.

Likewise now I have the transcripts 1759 - 1803  My chance to give something back to RootsChat and offer a look-up.

One of the Ancestry Family Trees for Robert Barlow shows that his daughter, Sarah, married James Lockett in Liverpool in July 1849. There is a marriage of James Lockett to Sarah Barlow in Liverpool RD in the September quarter 1849 . Vol 20 Page 325.

Another tree has the copy of the Frodsham Parish Register with the marriage in 1810. This shows the following:

Robert Barlow of this parish and Alice Jackson of this parish By Banns this thirtieth day of January 1810.

It looks like 30th, rather than 13th January, to me. There is no other information, so another dead end.

A word of caution as I note that the various trees an Ancestry show quite different details.
