Elizabeth Bain/Bone her birth record
« on: Tuesday 21 April 15 09:50 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for help with finding birth record of Elizabeth Bain/Bone; according to declaration on census
born Ayrshire.  Her recorded/declared age on D.C. of 1908 was 77, which would give her birth year of 1831. However. The only recorded births, that I have found, for Elizabeth Bone are these two; Elizabeth Bone, Christning place Maybole, Ayrshire, 29 Nov 1831. Parents William Bone & Marion Fergusson. The other Elizabeth Bone born St Quivox & Newton,Ayrshire on 8th May 1831. Parents James Bone & Agnes Mclean, Neither of which is the Elizabeth Bain/Bone I am searching for as her parents are recorded as Richard Bain (Furnaceman) & Catherine Murphy. There of course may not be a recorded record of precise date of birth, but any help would be appreciated, or indeed any information regarding her parents.

Thanks

Whaap

There might not be a record of her birth or baptism. Another possibility is that her age is incorrect on the death certificate. Also, the informant may have given the names of one or both of her parents incorrectly.

Probably the best thing to do is trace her back through the censuses. By 1841 you should find her living with her parents.

A possibility from an Ancestry family tree has an Elizabeth Bain, born 9 Aug 1824, in Ayr, Ayshire, and baptized 16 Aug 1824, in Ayr, Ayrshire (source given as: Catholic Baptismal record from St. Margaret's, and that it lists parents as Richard Bain & Jean Murphie.  They have this Elizabeth Bain down as marrying John McGee, 21 Dec 1843, St. Quivox Church, Ayr, Ayrshire (source given as: Sarah McGee's 1865 birth register).

Linked to this tree is an Elizabeth McGie listed on the 1861 Scotland census in Muirkirk, Ayrshire, as coal miner's wife-but no husband listed, and with children William-11, Richard-8, Ellen-5, & Andrew-2.  She is listed as born 1824 in Ayr, Ayrshire.

Waddoups - Northampton; Greaves/Gleaves- Birmingham; Sutton & Willie - Somerset & Devon; Sweeten/Sweeton - Ireland; Robert McKenzie - Scots Greys; Bradney/Bradley - Shropshire & Stafford; Aaron & Moses Williams - Pontesbury, Shropshire & Abersychan, Monmouth; Barham, Farnes, & Isacke - London; Odense County, Denmark; Gausdal, Oppland, Norway.

Thanks for that "ancestorsnoop",

The details held on that "Ancestry" tree in first paragraph of your reply match my particular search details regarding Elizabeth Bain/Bone. The birth date record of Elizabeth Bain/Bone are of interest, and news.

John McGee died 1888 & his age is given on D.C. as 60 (as GR2 said possibility of recorded age incorrect). Elizabeth Bain/Bone died in 1908. The informant on both D.C. was son in law Hugh
Conroy (I believe married Sarah McG).

The link referred to regarding 1861 census. The mentioned child "Andrew" aged (2) must have died
not long after census was taken. His recorded birth 23 Oct 1858, Muirkirk. Ayrshire.  In 1863 Andrew McGee, in district of Goven,Lanark, was born to John McGee and Elizabeth Bone. B.C. confirms marriage date of parents is consistent.

Birth record of Elizabeth Bain/Bone a further research project.

Thanks again
