looking for Wallace family after 1851 census
« on: Sunday 26 April 15 11:58 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the Wallace family which in the 1851 census is shown at 15 Glen Street, Paisley.  William is the head, aged 40; his wife is Jane and three children are with the family, Margaret (aged 25), William (aged 18) and James (14).  Also present is a grandchild, Jean Gibson.

In 1841, this family was at Carriagehill in Paisley: Jane is recorded as Jean and other children Jean (then 13), Barbara (then 11) and John (then 7) are listed along with the three children present ten years later.  Presumably Jean married someone Gibson between the censuses unless there is an older child already away from the home in 1841.

Censuses show that all the family except William were born in Paisley.  He is recorded as born outside the county in 1841 and this is specified as Kilmarnock in the 1851 details.  It seems that he is the William Wallace born in Kilmarnock 16 Feb 1811, the son of William Wallace, grocer, and Margaret Todd his spouse.

Jean (or Jane) was the daughter of Matthew Sim and ___ Robertson - she died, widowed, in 1894 at the age of 90.

I suspect William may have died between 1851 and 1855 - I have been unable to locate him further and have also been unable to locate the family in the 1861 or later censuses.

Any suggestions or advice about how I may progress my search?
