David Driscoll, born Merthyr Tydfil

I am having trouble finding my grandfather's birth records.  I have already wasted money on a couple of certificates, so am reluctant to add to the pile!

The story is that my great grandfather Daniel Driscoll married Ann ? in America, but I can't find my grandfather David.  The only certificate I haven't obtained is one dated 1868, no. 11a 369.  Could somebody do a lookup for me please?

No indication of birthyears given for Daniel or Ann.  Where did you get his fathers name from?  If it's from David's marriage cert - who were the witnesses.

Do you have the family on any census - please post details

Members of the public do not have access to birth certs so the 1868 birth cannot be looked up

Is this the right 1891 entry - living in Llantrisant Glamorgan?

I think this must be right, but this would give him a birth date of 1873, which I don't think is right.  I think it is 1868.

Why do you think he was born in 1868 rather than 1873?  Please include all relevant info that you already have

You need to work back through the available records to be sure of following the correct family.

Do you have a death for David Driscoll? birthdate or age listed? where and when did he die?
Marriage record? age, birthplace or parents listed on certificate?
Census records? place and years? what information listed for birthplace, age, etc.? family members?

The free 1911 index shows an entry for him with a birthyear of 1873 - have you viewed that entry?

1901 shows his age as 27 so again 1873/4

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so there is always the possibility that his birth was not registered
