no Rupell street in Leicester now (re A-Z) but could have existed way back. nearest now = Rupert Street off Pocklingtons walk, St Martins area

Mine mostly lived in Wharf Street area.... is that anywhere nearby..

I havent heard of Rupell Street - though I did find the record you mention.

 wharf street not too far from Rupert - you can see both on a google map. go for Wharf street south ( North in Thurmaston - village outside city)

Assuming the burial transcript is correct, which it probably is, the death should be in December quarter 1838.

Looking at the original death index page for that quarter I see there are deaths for two James Ravens registered in Leicester in that quarter. I wonder if there is simply an error in the index here and one of them should be John?

It could be useful to ring Leicester Register Office to see if they can help, explaining that you can't find the death in the GRO index and wonder if it has been omitted or mistranscribed. The number is 0116 454 1000.
