Hi brigidmac

No need to start a separate thread for a probate look-up.

You can view them for free at the following link (familysearch.org).    :)

i tried looking but computer says i have the wrong browser

yes i've come across the name jean kyle dwyer as a possible daughter before .

i'll check the james black on the wandilla 1912 ,could just be a mistake with his profession on the ship docu or it could be the wrong man

hmm, no marriage between James Black and Jeane McDermid in New South Wales Australia between 1911 and 1928

If you search Scotlandspeople.gov.uk there is a James Black marring a J.McDermid (surname variant check on) between 1911 and 1928 in Lanarkshire.

it's not the Southampton J>Black as the couple were together in NZ by 1928 .I don't think James Duff Black would have been classed as English .
I tried the free surname search on Scotlandspeople ..I'm not a member lots of James Black marriages but only 1 James D Black which i narrowed down to marriage btween 1920-1922 but it didn't work when I tried J Mcdermid or MacDermid

ps just looked at my own father's birth cert 1930 it was spelt McDermid though he always insisted on the Mac spelling which his parents + sister used .

Awesome Lucy, Motherwell is in Lanarkshire :)

Brigid
Unfortunately Scotlandspeople is a pay as you go site. If I had one credit left I would have opened it for you. I think that marriage will have to stay on the possible list. You just missed out on free credits last month.

My own Gr.grandfather (born 1895)  was a coal miner and from Fife, who brought his wife to NZ (No other close family here). So there was something afoot in Scotland - I wonder if NZ advertised for these men and helped pay their way out here after WW1?

My Gr.grandfather was a soldier in WW1 too and has British WW1 records.
