Margaret Manning Wigan 1841 cansus
« on: Monday 11 May 15 12:25 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find my  Great Grandmother Margaret Donovan, married to John, and have discovered listed in the 1841 census a Margaret Dunevin 25 with a 3 year old daughter called Ann which would fit in with Margaret and John's 1851 census.

More recent records state my Great Grandmother's maiden name is Mannion and since she was living in a household of Marageret Manning a widow aged 60   (which phonetically could be mistaken for Mannon) so I am wondering if she could  possibly be the daughter.

There is also an Anthony Manning aged 25 there, so could she be a twin?

I am unable to check necessary church records and would be grateful if someone could help me with any in formation about the following;

1.  Margaret's marriage to John Donovan

2.  Whether or not Anthony and Margaret are twins and date of birth/christening

Thank you.

Don't forget ages of adults 15yrs + are rounded down to the nearest 5 years on 1841  census

So if Anthony and Margaret are entered as age 25 they could be ages 25-29 -so possibly not twins -1841 census can be confusing - as can baptisms when 2 (or more) children are baptised at the same time - leads you to thinking twins/triplets - of course there is also the possibility that they could be twins - will see what I can find

Thanks everyone for your help.
Yes I have Ann Donovan's Birth cert. 1838 and see her Mother's maiden name is reg. as Mannion.  Margaret reg. it as Mannon on 1851 at the birth of Nicholas, my Grandfather.  However I cannot find any trace of Margaret's married name Donovan anywhere on the 1841 census other than the Margaret Dunevin with Daughter Ann in Wigan in the Manning household.
Perhaps I am clutching at straws and relying too much on possible mistakes made because of accents and  their illiteracy.

Just to cause a little more confusion
There is a marriage for
John Donovan and Margaret Nunan in 1842 at St Anthony RC Church Liverpool. Were the family Catholics?

Hello Heywood,
Thanks for Anthony and Ann's death dates I will certainly try to follow those up.
The address on Ann's birth certificate is Chapel Lane Wigan and John is a weaver.  Not sure about their religion though but I think it was Catholic.
