Isabel Amy Harding
« on: Thursday 14 May 15 10:10 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to this lady.  She was born in 1839 in St Pancras London but seems to disappear from the English census after 1861.
Family stories say that she went to Ireland but we know no more than that.
Of her surviving siblings one brother (William Charles) went to Canada, and two sisters Katherine Georgiana and Helena Constance lived together in Kent.  No mention of Isabel is made in their wills (1933 and 1942).  Another brother (Edward Malim Harding) remained in England and died a bachelor in 1894.
Thanks for any guidance.
Malim (any) Wilde, Mase/Mace Bagshaw (Norwich/Norfolk), Almond (London, Staffs, S America, Thanet) Hart, Sharp/e Lincs, Smith (London) Ware (London) Blower (Hants Essex) Webb, Holmes (Suffolk Essex) Warcup (London, W Indies) Hallam (Leics) Johnson and Noon Derbyshire

Hello hc (long time no chat  ;) )

Have you ruled out an 1877 marriage in Dublin of an Amy Isabel Harding?

Possible spouse William Henry Gater. 1901 & 1911 census for Dublin have William with wife Amy, she listed as born London. He listed as born Dublin, a Professor of Music.

Interestingly, both census suggest birth year c1850, but an Amy Isabel Gater death in Dublin in 1921, with birth year 1839, makes me wonder, as likely to be same person, if she was older than him and he didn't want this to be shown on the census returns.

and interestingly, the inscription gives the age at death of everyone, except Amy.

Many thanks for that Scot (yes ltns!)  I suspected that she may have married in Ireland, but we knew nothing.  It certainly seems like it could be her, her death in 1921 would also seem to be why she doesn't get a mention on her sister's wills.
Thanks dathai for the probate record for William H Gater, it may be worthwhile getting that at some time.
