Hi Charles, I'm in Suffolk myself so I looked the information up at the records office today using transcripts (bound books) of the original parish registers.
Some of the Suffolk parishes have been transcribed and indexed and are on the open shelf in the records office, this is probably the same in all county records offices, I'm not sure.
Failing that, I look at fiche copies of the registers themselves.

Obviously there is more information to be found - their marriage and probably several more baptisms which I failed to find today.

As for (had relief), I'm not sure.  Parish relief, maybe.  I'm sure some other rootschatter will provide the answer for us.

Thomas Ellis & Rebekah Bird were married 26 April 1779 Bungay St Mary.  (Suffolk Marriage Index)

In addition to the births Annes found I also found Samuel son of James Thomas & Rebecca Bpt 12 Jun 1796 in the transcripts for Ilketshall St Margaret.  Born 11 June, Rebecca's surname was transcribed as 'Beard'.

There could well be more children from this couple as there is quite a gap between their marriage & the children bapt in Ilketshall St Andrew.

You say Edward was buried Ilketshall St John - when did he die? There is nothing in the St John transcripts to suggest he is buried there but the Suffolk Burial Index records an Edward Ellis age 84 buried 29 May 1874 at Bungay Holy Trinity. So born c1790.

K

Thank you for this information Keziah2. I have probate records and burial from ancestry.ca. Edward died 1874 and likely in Hardwick Norfolk. Edward had his children from 1814 thru 1841 so what you say makes sense to me that there are more children in that space.

Appreciate all your help

Charles

Hi Charles and Keziah

I was wondering about the marriage Keziah found in Bungay St Mary; I'd already looked at this parish and thought I must have just missed it (and pleased Keziah had found it  :)) )

I was back in the RO today and thought I'd try and find the entry in the parish register for Bungay St Mary but couldn't.  I finally found the marriage in the parish of Weston, same date.  Sorry Keziah   :-\  ;)

Taken from Weston parish register:

Thomas Ellis OTP singleman
Rebekah Bird OTP singlewoman
Married by banns at Weston, Suffolk on 26th April 1779
Both signed their names
Witnesses: Charles Whynyard (X) and Samuel Routh

Banns read at Weston on 11th, 18th and 25th April 1779

Hi Annes and Keziah2, here is a probate copy of Samuel Ellis from the book of Ellis's of Norfolk and Suffolk.

 Thought i would share this.

Will of BENJAMIN ELLIS of Tharston, yeoman, d. 10 May
1699. To John Ellis his son all his lands in St. Andrew’s
Suffolk, of copyhold tenure, of Ilketshall St. Andrew’s to pay
thereout £20 to Robert his son at 21--his br. Henry Ellis of
Frendenhall—--Elizabeth his d. wife of Harry Lord—my sons
Benjamin, William, Robert, and Samuel. Pr. 1704.

I am wondering if this has to with my tree?

Thanks to the both of you,
Charles

I am wondering who might be John's parents? Would any other records be available?

And how can i purchase copies of these records.

Thank you,
Charles
