Burial of Robert Thorne
« on: Saturday 16 May 15 08:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for the burial of Robert Thorne who was born in 1780 (the son of Robert Thorne and Anne Sneesby) and who married Jane Elizabeth Warren at St Dunstans in the East Church, London on 22 Oct 1800.

Jane Elizabeth Thorne later re-married as a widow at the same church on 19 June 1831 to John Bryant.

I am unable to find Roberts death and wondered if anyone has access to the local records that can tell me when Robert died?

Thanks in anticipation.

Alan

Alan,
There seems to be one baptism about a year after the marriage, in a different parish:
Name:    Robert Thorn
Baptism Date:    25 Oct 1801
Parish:    St Botolph, Aldersgate
County:    London
Borough:    City of London
Parent(s):    Robert Thorn,
Jane Elizth Thorn

So it may be worth looking in this area.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your response.

I don't know the area at all but is Bunhill Fields nearby? Courtesy of familysearch.org I have seen one potential burial for 22 June 1802 which could fit but there is no age at death shown. As you say there was only one child - son Robert - who was born 4 Oct 1801.

If this death is the father he would only be 21/22 when he died.

Alan,
Bunhill Fields is a little further north in what is now Islington but it appears this burial ground was used by the City of London from the 17th century onwards until it's closure in 1853. So it is a possibility.

The burial register shows his age as 9 months and buried from Windmill Street.

At this date Bunhill Fields was chiefly, but not exclusively, a nonconformist burial ground, with burials from all over the London area.

Hi,

Thank you Bookbox - its not my man or his son who died in 1842 - I guess will have to keep on looking.
