In the area where  the first  son was born ,there's  this  one  ,   but   not  before  1860 !

Marriages Mar 1868

Redman  Elizabeth     Tunbridge  2a 590
Thorpe  Henry     Tunbridge  2a 590

There's  a  Henry  Thomas  Thorpe  marrying  in 1864  in  Greenwich   ,  again  after the  first  child being born

Jan that sounds like the one to me. Not to say c children not hers. She may have been a naughty girl. Seems to run in the family!!!

I think you've answered the question though, if the eldest Frederick Thorpe was born in 1860 and in 1861 Elizabeth Redman was  working in London, it doesn't look as if he was her child. I would guess that Henry was a widower when she married him.

If that is Frederick's birth, he would be with Henry in 1861.

I'd come to the same conclusion as Groom - need to find them on 1861!

Thanks guys. This is what I know. Mary and Elizabeth were in service in London.
Mary married John Webb had a son George 1868 husband died 1870 She left son with parents in Arundel on 1871 census. O n 1881 census she and son Georgew are with widow Henry Thorpe husband  of sister Elizabeth who died 1875 (I didn't know then that Elizabeth was sister) She had a daughter with him Louisa Elizabeth Thorpe 1878. She married again and on 1901 census living with her  is Louisa Elizabeth Webb or Thorpe as she was.  So was just wanting proof that ELizabeth was Henry's wife. To make matters worse Louisa married Arthur Redman, son of Mary's brother John.

Confused you will be a nd I certainly am. But think I have it right. What do you think?
