John Webber - born early 1900's - worked for City of Toronto
« on: Tuesday 19 May 15 16:59 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more about a man named John Webber.
What I do know is that he was alive when his sister (Margaret Brady -nee Webber) died in 1953.
My guess is that he died prior to 1961 - but not certain.
No other siblings as far as I know.

He lived in the east end of Toronto in the late 1930's - on Munro Street (Broadview & Gerrard).
Some evidence suggests he had some farm property out Bancroft way in his later years.
No idea where he was living when he died.

Believe he was married and had some kids.
His wife's name is not certain at this point - but may have been a woman named Violet Potter.

He worked for a City of Toronto (possibly Works Dept) for a period of time.
Brady, Hennessy, Dolan, Brennan, Cramer, Miller, Maier, Bisceglia

A 21 year old John Joseph Webber, s/o John Webber and Ellen Henraty married Viiolette Lillian Potter, 18, d/o William Potter and Margaret Scott 18 Oct 1927 at Toronto.
This John Webber's birth was 11 Feb 1906 at Toronto.
Ellen Webber, b. 1877 Ottawa, d/o John Henryatti died of influenza 10 Jan 1919 Toronto and buried at Hope Cemetery
John Joseph Webber, widower, died at age 50 28 Dec 1925, buried Mount Hope, son John informant.
On the 1911 census there is a Webber family indexed on ancestry.ca as Wester.  Father John, mother Ellen and son John.  No Margaret with this family.  Birth records only go to 1913 on ancestry.  Was Margaret born after this or is this the wrong Webber family

There is an anc tree that says
Margaret Webber - born 01 01 1914 in  Ireland passed away 01 01 1953 in  Toronto, Ontario, Canada married to James Brady. James Brady died 01/01/1943 Ireland.  ??? 4 children listed James 1936 - 2009 William 1939 - 2000 Patricia 1941 - 2000 Michael 1943 - 1998 (all deaths Toronto - no sources - no further info)

Hi,

From cosmac's find of the marriage of John to Violette, John gives his address as
12 Regent St. which matches Sandra's 1921 census.

Cheers,
DB

You have the right family.
Margaret Mary Webber was born in August of 1914.

Marriage record (Register General copy) for Margaret Webber in 1936 to James Brady listed parents for  Margaret as:
Father - John Webber
Mother - Nellie Hanratty  (have seen her first name listed as Ellen)

** I previously saw the death record for Ellen Webber with listing of father as John "Henryatti" - thus the confusion on the spelling of her maiden name
** believe it to be - Hanratty

Wondering how you were able to find the marriage record for 1927? (not to mention some of the other info)

Just wondering if this is the correct obituary - Obituary - Toronto Daily Star - 5 January 1953 (children shown are different to those on that family tree entry and Margaret is referred to as Mary Kiernan ) - Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.  ???

re: Obituary - it is not the correct obituary
Margaret Webber died on December 9, 1953

The anc tree is accurate with respect to the children of James Brady & Margaret Webber.
However, some errors in the dates (yob / yod)
Plus no Ireland for either James (born in Montreal) and Margaret (born in Toronto)

re: 1921 census - quite confident this is the correct family (12 Regent St.)
** albeit one troubling part - or fact to confirm
Wife of John (Jack) Webber - listed as Margaret??
His wife Ellen died in 1919 - did he re-marry??

Suspected there was something wrong with the anc tree entry - all a bit vague  ::)   It is always better to put all the information you already have in your original post, saves us duplicating what you already have.
If John remarried it was after the death of Ellen 10 January 1919 and the date of 1921 Canadian Census -  1 June 1921. However he was a widower on the death cert in 1925.
