KENNA/NOLAN
« on: Friday 22 May 15 14:51 BST (UK) »
Michael Kenna/Bridget Nolan married 2 October 1912 in North Dublin (St Laurence O’Toole).

I am looking for information on Bridget; at the time of the marriage she gave her address as 17 Northbrook Avenue Lower which was the address of the witness Thomas Egan.  Her father’s name and occupation is given as Owen Nolan – Firebrigade Man.

I have looked for her father but believe he may have been deceased at the time of the marriage.  I did find a death record for an Owen Nolan in 1903 and have found his grave in the Glasnevin records.  His occupation is given as Mercantile Clerk.  His wife and two children are also buried in the same grave and their father’s occupation is given on one as Fireman’s daughter and as clerk’s child on the other.  It is a tenuous connection I know to the information I am looking for on Bridget.

I did trace the same family on the 1901 census and Owen's birthplace is given as England. I found some information on what I think was Owen's birthplace. I traced Owen’s marriage and the births of the children and two names match family names that I know of.

I think I am trying to convince myself I am on the right track but would be grateful for any information anyone could give me on Bridget if I am not.

Thanks in advance.

This looks like Thomas Nolan (witness) with other relatives-

This is the Nolan family you found in 1901 but Owen Nolan is listed a solicitor's clerk not fireman-

Thanks aghadowey,

This is why I am not 100% I am on the right family. It is just trying to bring it all together.  When I checked the records for Glasnevin the death of one child said mercantile clerk's daughter and the other child's said fireman's daughter. The address tied in with the 1901 census. Thanks again for your help.

Can you give us the complete burial details (names, dates of death, ages, addresses) so we can try to find more information.

I wonder could this be the baptism of Catherine NOLAN who died in 1896 aged 12?
Eugene is commonly known as Owen in Ireland
Helena could also be Ellen

There is a marriage in 1883 of an Owen NOLAN
with a matching reference for an Ellen DINGLE
This marriage certificate might state if Owen was then a fireman

also this other thread, if not yours, may be of interest - LINK

edited to add

The 1901 census return showing Owen NOLAN aged 39 and his family included Matthew aged 8
This is a possible baptism record in Nov 1890

There is an army record of a Matthew NOLAN Reg#13778 during WW1
shown on an ancestry family tree as the son of Owen and Ellen nee Dingle, I believe erroneously
He joined the army on Sep 20 1914 aged 21 years and 210 days => born c Feb 20 1893

It shows his sister Bridget (no surname shown) of Clydebank, Glasgow as his next of kin
changed to Bridget (Maguire) wife on May 16 1919

His record also states that he worked in Glasgow from 1912-1914 and in Eason's of Abbey Street Dublin from 1910-1912 (this was and still is a Book Shop)

This is a better match to the online tree, showing Matthew as the son of Owen and Ellen
1911 census return as a "clerk in bookseller"

Thanks myluck!  I have a copy of the certificate but Owen's profession on it is a lettercarrier which I suppose is a postman. He was also married at  St Laurence O'Tooles. Thank you.
