You're right I had got my Roberts mixed up, the Robert you and I are talking about was a bachelor.  I have just said to my husband 'he couldn't wait to get married again, wasn't going to do his own cooking, washing and cleaning!' When did his second wife die?

Harriet died in 1914 aged 92. She was staying with her granddaughter, Rosa, in Aysgarth North Yorkshire. Prior to that she visited her grandson John Simon Bailey in Lancashire and was there for the 1901 census. I suspect she inherited enough money from Robert Ewing to enable her to live on her "own means" with her daughter's family and travel with them. Before her second marriage she was a live-in servant, having been widowed in 1853. She lost 2 infants in the previous 2 years, had an illegitimate child (my g grandfather) in 1854 and took in washing to support her 3 surviving children.
So I hope she found happiness with Robert Ewing-I think she deserved it!

Thank you for all the information, it is the child of Robert and Mary Ann Thurlow (Samuel) which is my husband's direct line.  It certainly sounds as though her life became easier following her marriage to Robert.
