Unicorn Inn
« on: Monday 25 May 15 13:39 BST (UK) »
I'm looking into a death of one of my ancestors and came across a newspaper article which mentions the Unicorn Inn...Does anyone know where this pub was? It had to be in the city somewhere. I'm thinking Churchgate area as my ancestor walked from Short Street to the Inn.

It can't be lutterworth

The lady was 83

witness (her daughter) sent her for some beer to the Unicorn Inn.....They lived Short Street Leicester.

Short street is near Churchgate in the Town.

The lady was then taken to the infirmary at the Union Workhouse where she died.

:) Thank you...that's the one because another witness said they found her in Carrington street...So she had either just come out the Unicorn or was just going in.

Is that street still there or has it changed its name?

Hi

Short Street to Carrington Street is 12 miles, seems a long way to walk for a drink.

But the Unicorn I found was in Leicester (rather than Leicestershire)?
Can Leicester City really be 12 miles across?!?! ;D ;D

Or were you referring the the current day Carrington Street in Loughborough?

I found this
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=515997.0

Seems it used to be near St George Street

according to google it is a 13 min walk....I would say it took an 83 year old lady longer to walk
